League 1 Championships

League 1 Championships is a tournament that aims to crown the best league one player of the next 5 weeks. With a total price pool of $400 USD, we aim to increase our reach to more players, and make Ranked Leagues an integral part of the MCSR community.

Format

The League 1 Championships will be held over the next 6 weeks, 5 of which are the qualification stage. In short, the first 4 weeks will be the normal Ranked Leagues matches. Then we will replace the Ranked Leagues event for a last chance qualifiers, and finally the championships will be held.

Qualification Stage

The qualification stage takes place over 5 weeks (week 12 to week 17). In the first 4 weeks, league 1 will run as normal: The highest placed player of each week that has not qualified will autoqual for the championships.

For example, if in week 1, player A gets first, he will autoqual for the Championships. If player A gets first again in week 2, player B who got second will autoqual.

Z-Score

After the first 4 weeks, in order to promote the more consistent players, the two players with the highest Z-score, that have not yet qualified, will qualify.

  • The Z-score is a custom rating method that aims to standartize randomness between weeks.
  • It allows us to compare player’s performance to the rest of the field regardless if the seeds were good or bad.
  • It is calculated as follows:

(average of all players’ averages - player’s average) / standard deviation of all players

It is calculated per week, and as such, you can think it of what points would be if we were to remove all randomness from them (i.e. different number of players in each week, harder/easier seeds, etc.)

Last Chance Qualifiers

In the 5th week, a final Last Change Qualifier will take place instead of the Ranked Leagues. All registered players in league 1 are invited. It will be a bracket elimination between all registered players, Bo3 sets single elimination. The top two players advance. No player who has already qualified can play.

Champtionship Stage

The entire Champtionship stage takes place in one week.

To recap, Seeds are determined as follows:

  • Top 4 are the weekly winners ordered by amount of points using the point normalization formula: (points earned / max points)
  • Seeds 5 and 6 are the players who qualified by z score ordered by the z score
  • Seeds 7 and 8 are the players who qualified by lcq, first and second respectively.

Day one: Robin Format

On Day 1, all 8 qualifiers fight in a 7 round robin format. Each player will go head to head against each other player. The rules are as follows:

  • Each seed has a 13 minute time limit.
  • Each win is worth 1 point, each loss is worth 0 points.
  • Players cannot draw, if neither player completes they will both be awarded 0 points.
  • The top 4 will move onto day 2.

In case of a tie on points, the order will be determined in this order:

  1. Opponent score (Sum of the points of your opponents)
  2. Average completion time (to the hundredths digit)

All players who move onto day 2 will earn money.

Day two: Bracket

On day 2, the final players will play in a bracket elimination. The Semifinals will be Best of 5, and the finals will be Best of 7. The Robin stage winner receives the exclusive privilege of choosing their first-round opponent in the semifinals.

Price Pool

All participants who manage to be alive by day 2, will earn money.

  1. Winner of League 1 Championships: $225
  2. Second place: $125
  3. 3rd-4th: $20

Bonus: The fastest completition wins $10.
